Michael Fitts

Michael Fitts’s oil painting are minimal yet highly detailed works on distressed salvaged pieces of metal. Fitts’s subjects are usually icons from popular American culture, which span the last 50 years. These icons are presented in a very analytical non personal way, and yet clues into his past and present may be found in the object he chooses to represent. Fitts choice of material reminds one of the advertising signs of the early part of last century, reinforcing his works relationship to popular Americana culture.
